Massages are generally 60 or 90 minutes
Swedish massage may loosen up tight muscles caused by daily activities such as sitting at the computer or exercising. It can be very helpful for people who hold a lot of tension in their lower back, shoulders, or neck. During a Swedish massage, therapists use kneading, long strokes, deep circular movements, and passive joint movements.
Deep tissue massage targets the inner layers of your muscles, tendons, and fascia. The deep pressure can sometimes be painful. Deep tissue massage is best suited for athletes, runners, and people with injuries. It can also work for people with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and lower back pain. This type of massage facilitates healing by releasing contracted areas of muscle and tissue. It can help increase blood flow to the soft tissues and may help to reduce inflammation.
Sports massage is a preventive therapy that addresses muscle symmetry, tone, and balance, as well as range of motion. Sports Massage Therapy manipulate soft tissue to reduce pain and tension and improve muscle condition and range of motion.
Prenatal Massage can be received during the second and third trimester of pregnancy. Prenatal massage can offer reduced stress, relief of common complaints such as low back and leg pain as well as improved sleep through relaxation. Please consult your physician prior to your appointment. Pregnancy massage is a great way to relax, and take that much needed ‘me time’ during the build up to baby’s arrival.
Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and support the muscles throughout your body. Myofascial release focuses on reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness in the trigger points.
Lymphatic drainage massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, relieves swelling that happens when medical treatment or illness blocks your lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph move to an area with working lymph vessels.
'Lomi lomi' translates to 'rub rub' in Hawaiian, and reflects the broad, flowing strokes made with the therapist's fingers, thumbs, palms, arms and elbows. Macadamia, palm and coconut oils are usually used as moisturizers in lomi lomi massage, to keep the strokes smooth and to nourish the skin.
